Whooping cough cases are very high this year, with over 10,000 confirmed cases so far (August 2024).

When you have the whooping cough vaccination in pregnancy, your body produces antibodies to protect against whooping cough, these antibodies pass to your baby giving them some protection until they’re able to have their whooping cough vaccination at 8 weeks old.

You will normally receive your whooping cough vaccination around the time of your mid-pregnancy scan, around 20 weeks, but you can receive it from 16-weeks’ up to 32-weeks’ gestation. If you have reached 20 weeks of pregnancy and have not yet been offered the whooping cough vaccine, please ask your midwife.
