Gemma Sweetapple is a theatres recovery nurse at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. She wanted to share some of her memories with us from when she welcomed her two little ones into the world at St Mary’s, and tells us why she’s particularly excited about maternity’s big move to the BEACH.
Tim Hillard is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Poole Hospital. He takes a trip down memory lane to look back at the wonderful legacy of St Mary’s Maternity Unit, where an estimated 250,000 babies have been welcomed into the world since it first opened in 1961!
Marnie was born the Haven Labour Ward. The whole labour was about two and a half hours, but the most painful labour out of the two that I have been through. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say how fortunate I was to have an amazing midwife deliver Marnie. The midwife’s name is Rachel. Such a lovely and kind midwife.
